i love basketball, and it's that time of year again. college basketball is just around the corner! consequently, i thought i'd do a very quick write-up to get the juices flowing for those who care.

few people realize that the top two returning scorers in Division I basketball are White kids, as are 3 of the top 4. to go along with that, there are numerous interesting story lines to follow and many talented (albeit, obviously unheralded) White athletes to follow.

img16649625.jpg

the big story this year will be Doug McDermott. already a two-time First-team All-American, the true Mickey D All-American (despite not being considered a D-I prospect coming out of high school by all the "experts") returns for his senior season prepared to re-write the record books, having already set virtually every meaningful scoring record in school history. to make things even more challenging for the nation's returning leading scorer, his Creighton team is moving to the Big East.

a legitimate candidate for National Player of the Year honors, McDermott's legacy takes on an even greater perspective when you realize that he will play this year while not on scholarship ... so his teammate Grant Gibbs, who was granted a medical redshirt year by the NCAA, can be on one. else, Creighton would've been over the scholarship limit. you can't make up incredible stories of selflessness like that. if it were a movie script, no one would believe it.

bader-610x380.jpg

i'd be surprised if you could name the #2 returning scorer in the nation without doing some digging, because to say he's flown under the national radar is like saying a submarine flies. but despite the media blackout, Travis Bader just keeps lighting up the scoreboard.

perhaps the nation's premier long-range shooter, "Darth" Bader has a shot to break JJ Redick's 3-point record. with a coach who believes in him, a system that plays very fast and encourages the three-point shot, and with uncanny accuracy from long range, if he stays healthy the Flam3 Thrower (he wears number 3, you see) should be torching the opposition as his Oakland team makes the leap from the Summit to the Horizon League.

ncb_u_haws_gb1_400.jpg

smooth 6-5 two guard Tyler Haws is the total package offensively. with the ability to attack the rim, pull up for a mid-range jumper, knock it down from behind the arc, or quietly knock 'em down at the free throw line, Haws just kills you. without a bunch of talking. quietly. like a White mormon ninja.

marshall_hendersonauburn.gif

the volatile scorer from Ole Miss Marshall Henderson rounds out this initial post. the SEC PoY a year ago after leading the league in scoring, Henderson is known as much for his big mouth as for his big scoring prowess. he's also been troubled with drug use in his personal life. it will be interesting to see if the Land Shark has learned to not bite the hand that feeds him and will fuel his aggression into better basketball, or if he will bite off more than he can chew due to his poor decision making and self destruct.

here's hoping for an exciting college basketball season!

an even quicker follow-up ...

Dougie Fresh is on everyone's preseason First-team AA list. that means nothing, of course, but it is nice to see him getting the recognition.

others getting some unexpected, though well-deserved, preseason acclaim are Aaron Craft (Ohio State point guard) and Mitch McGary (Michigan power forward/center).

Craft is the nation's premier on-ball defender and floor general. he can completely take over a game while not stuffing a stat sheet in a way i can't remember seeing since Corey Beck did it in Arkansas' nationally powerful run from '92-94.

just a sophomore, McGary is a powerful dude. he exploded in the NCAA Tourney, and many thought he would declare for the NBA draft following the season. also an explosive leaper, and possessing a mean streak, McGary could emerge as the best big man in the country.

quickly off the top of my head, some other names to keep an eye out for: Joe Harris (Virginia guard/forward), Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga point guard), and Sam Dekker (Wisconsin guard/forward). all of these cats could emerge as national award candidates if they live up to their potential.

Thank you very much for the write-ups, Jimmy. I love college basketball as well, and am glad it is starting up again soon! I'll help you out on some of the whiter teams to cheer for this year if you don't mind, Jimmy!

Even though they have lost NBA point guard Nate Wolters, South Dakota State will be a force to be reckoned with again this year in the Summit League. They look to start 5 white players again this year, and with one possible exception, look to have an all-white rotation this year! From the Jackrabbit's exhibition game, it looks like guard Brayden Carlson will be the man this year for the Jacks. In 25 minutes, he went 9-11 from the field, scoring 23 points. Another guy to look out for is Cody Larson, who has transferred back to his home state from Florida.

Brayden-Carlson-South-Dakota-State-Jackrabbits-630x353.jpg

Brayden Carlson

Jimmy mentioned Sam Dekker as a player to look out for, and rightfully so. Dekker is going to be a beast. The news gets even better: Wisconsin should start 4 white guys this year! Among the starter is guard Josh Gasser, who missed last year with an ACL injury.

Even though Butler lost their best players in Rotnei Clarke and Andrew Smith, they still have guard/forward Kellen Dunham, who should be the main scorer for the Bulldogs this year. Butler looks to start 3 white players as they make the transition to the Big East.

13_blog_stlouis_kellen_dunham_4.jpg

Kellen Dunham

Michigan State is starting a white player this year in Matt Costello. Two more guys who should get time are Russell Byrd and Alex Gauna. I only mention them because they are the whitest Top 5 team this year.

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are the team of choice this year in the ACC (it's weird saying that; damn conference realignment!). The Irish will start three white players this year: Tom Knight, who really broke out last year, Garrick Sherman, finally getting his chance to shine, and Pat Connaughton, the deadly sharpshooter. Off the bench for Notre Dame will be a freshman guard, Steve Vasturia, and forward Austin Burgett.

460x.jpg

Tom Knight

The defending champion Louisville Cardinals may have a couple of white players to cheer for as well! Returning: the key player in Louisville's championship game win: Luke Han****. Han**** is a clutch player, and should be starting for the Cardinals this year. Another guy who may be starting is senior F/C Stephan Van Treese. Another who may play is senior walk-on guard Tim Henderson.

166102682.jpg

Luke Han****

Don't expect to cheer for Duke this year. Coach K has decided to take the team all-black! Alex Murphy and Marshall Plumlee played a combined 9 minutes off the bench in an exhibition game. This team has no business being that black!

I'm ready for some college hoops!!!

Nice job on the write ups guys. :thumb: I find the college games more entertaining than the NBA games as im sure most on this site do. The difference is night and day.

Add me to the college basketball fan list. Good write-ups so far fellas.

No discussion can be complete without Gonzaga. The Zags started 3 Whites in their exhibition game: Senior guard David Stockton, junior guard Kevin Pangos and Sophomore Center Przemek Karnowski. Losing Kelly Olynyk early to the NBA hurts but the Bulldogs have plenty of fire power and Stockton is the perfect guy to get the ball in the hands of the scorers. Pangos should again lead the way in scoring. He's awesome. Reports have it that Karnowski lost weight and is in great shape this season. At 7'-1" with skill, look for him to break out this year.

Off the bench swing men, Kyle Dranginis and Drew Barham will be key members of the rotation. Backing up Karnowski at center is another monster of a man, 7'-1" freshman Ryan Edwards. In the exhibition he scored 13 points in 14 minutes. I'm excited to see what he can do as well. There could be other Whites who play their way into the rotation as well but we'll have to wait and see. Overall 13 of the 17 roster spots are filled with White guys!

P.S. - Former top HS recruit and victim of Calipari's plantation, Klye Wiltjer, has transfer to Gonzaga. By rule, he will sit out this year but has 2 years of eligibility remaining!

JC, what's embarrassing about that highlight of Henderson is the DWFdom that exists at Auburn. While all the DWF's are giving Henderson the finger, the black guy just stands there smiling. Further proof of how the CM have successfully raised a bunch of prideless, pu$$y white boys.

and just to whet your appetite in hopes that Dunk City will continue to go after under the radar, high flying White kids ... they've already gotten a commitment for a Class of 2014 point guard who can do this:

his name is Christian Terrell.

I love how all those ******* in the audience are flexing on Henderson like they would actually NOT sh*t their pants if Henderson just chimped out and said, "f*ck it," and just decided to go to jail by beating their faces in.

They'd probably sue and become millionaires for being p*ssies.

how many folks know the name, Wally Ellenson? if you're a fan of high fliers, you should.

he might be the most explosive leaper in college basketball. period. how do i know? because he's cleared 7-feet, 2-and-1/2-inches in the high jump (which was good enough for 8th in the NCAA Championships), which he did this summer. see below.

Ellenson, the only All-American on the Minnesota roster, also won the gold medal in the high jump at the Pan American Junior Championships in Medellin, Colombia, this August. a rare two-sport Division I athlete, Wally's freshman year of basketball (2013) was a wash due to a broken hand and apparently a bout of mono. but this incredibly raw, incredibly athletic 6-foot-6 two guard is finally healthy and hoping for a breakout season.

here's a couple of in-game high jumps to get you excited for the possibilities:
http://btn.com/video/13062723936/
http://btn.com/video/13801539661/

hopefully, he's worked on his game enough to get some quality run.

the college season got started off right, with the mostly-White Wisconsin Badgers (4 White athletes earned the start) knocking off the all black Storm of St. Johns.

led by Josh Gasser's 19 points and 8 rebounds and Sam Dekker's 16 points and 7 rebounds, the Badgers led by as many as 18 in the first half and never let the lead fall under 4 (with 8 minutes left). Wisconsin is certainly a team to pull for this year.

1460098_657539517619588_521687210_n_zps5701549c.jpg

****************************

Notre Dame won their opener, defeating Miami (OH) behind Pat Connaughton's 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists (only 1 turnover in 38 minutes), and 2 steals. the Irish started 3 White men on the evening.

***************************

Maryland's Evan Smotrycz and Jake Layman each scored 13 points, and Smotrycz added a game-high 9 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to upset UConn. the Terps fall by 1, despite a furious late rally. for the dark-hued Huskies, senior German wing Niels Giffey came off the bench and scored 13 points in 17 minutes while only missing 1 shot and grabbing 4 rebounds. give him some more playing time!

I watched the Wisconsin game as well Jimmy, and I must say, it was awesome watching the Badgers take it to St. John's like that! They should be a fun team to watch this year. It was great to see Josh Gasser come back so strong after his injury.

As for Duke, Plumlee and Murphy barely played at all. Not a team to cheer for.

How about Trevor Cooney from Syracuse?? Cooney scored 27 points tonight for Syracuse.

Minnesota actually has some white players playing this year for them! Joey King led the Gophers with 20 points, and Elliott Eliason had his first double double as well tonight, with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Not a bad way to open up the Pitino Era in Gopher Land.

Creighton got a nice warm up to start the season, with Alcorn State coming to town. Doug McDermott opened the year with 20 points and 5 rebounds in only 20 minutes, as Alcorn St is terrible. Other whites in double digits were sharpshooter Ethan Wragge with 15, and Will Artino with 12. Freshman Zach Hanson also played well, with 9 points. Creighton started three whites tonight, with several more getting time off the bench.

Excellent start up Jimmy C! Wanted to add to the list of HIGH-FLYERS....Possibly the Dunk of the Early Season so far! 6'-6" Soph. Jordan Weethee from VMI with the serious throw-down! Making it even more impressive he just came back from a torn ACL in his knee! The facial expression of his team mate after the dunk is funny!

Could you please help embed this video onto the screen like the ones above? Thanks! Do not do this stuff enough...frustrating that I forgot...

That was one sweet dunk. He cuffed it and you just knew that he was going to posterize that defender. Glad to see Sportscenter actually give him some props. I'm sure that he will have many more of those dunks as the season progresses.

The top scorer in the entire D1 on opening night was a White man, Anthony Drmic of Boise State.

The Australia native had 34 points in only 27 minutes while adding 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Overall Boise is a White friendly team to root for.

Utah State opened their season by knocking off perennially-affletic (and oft-overrated) Southern Cal, behind the sharp shooting of potential WAC Player of the Year Preston Medlin.

prestonmedlin_zpsddb085d9.jpeg

Medlin is coming off a wrist injury that cost him the second half of last season, but he looks to already have his shot in midseason form, dropping 17 on the Trojans.

Utah State started 3 White men in the game, and their 2 primary bench players were also White. sophomore Kyle Davis finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds, Spencer Butterfield (perhaps the best rebounding guard in the nation) finished with 12 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists, while Danny Berger (5 points, a team-high 8 rebounds, and 4 assists) and Jordan Stone (8 points and 5 boards) contributed off the bench.

BYU got their season off to a great start, beating Weber State 81-72. The Cougar's backcourt of Matt Carlino and Tyler Haws was deadly, with the pair combining for 50 of the Cougars' 81 points on the night. Haws had 28 of those points, with Carlino getting 22. Speaking of Haws, he had a double double on the night as well, leading his team with 13 rebounds! The Cougar's starting 5 was all white as well, with guard Kyle Collinsworth, and forwards Nate Austin and Erik Mika. In addition to Haws, Collinsworth had a double double, with 11 points and 10 boards. BYU is going to be very fun to watch this year, especially with all those white playmakers! This should be the CF team to cheer for.

I wonder how deadly BYU would be if Top 50 recruit Nick Emery had decided to play his freshman year. He instead elected to serve his 2 year mission right away. Eric Mika, his HS teammate, will most likely serve his at the conclusion of this season.

That sucks about Emery; BYU could have been great this year with him. I still think they will be a team to be reckoned with even without Emery. For anybody that wants to watch, Haws and BYU will be playing Stanford I believe on ESPN2 tonight at 12 eastern/11 central time.

Doug McDermott is lighting up UMKC right now! Just a couple of minutes into the 2nd half, he has 30 points already!!

BYU's backcourt of Carlino and Haws are absolutely demolishing Stanford right now. These guys are FUN to watch, and they are just flat out ballers. Carlino and Haws are matching each other with 22 points a piece so far tonight as BYU has exploded offensively, with 88 points with just under 8 minutes left to go. Add in backcourt mate Kyle Collinsworth(13), and these three have combined for 57 out of BYU's 88 points!! Simply put, BYU's attacking guards are a joy to watch, and BYU has been playing with 4-5 white men basically the entire game. Make it a point to watch these guys this year!!

Yea, I watched a good amount of the 2nd half. Honestly, I haven't seen Haws play very much before last night but wow. This guy can shoot the rock. I might be premature to say this but he's a better shooter than Jimmer Fredette. Reminds me alot of Reggie Miller or J.J. Redick how he works hard without the ball and off screens to get open. Once he catches, his release is so quick and compact that he's nearly unstoppable.

112-103 impressive showing for BYU/Stanford resembling an NBA Score...Haws was/is Light's Out with that quick release catch-n-shoot!

Chase Fieler had 30 points this morning for Florida Gulf Coast...including a nice steal & break away dunk to seal the deal at the end!

This article says.....
Well, they are, and they’re still incredibly good at throwing the ball down:
