Kelly looked good. Great work out fight for him. His opponent although White was dirty! Keep hitting Kelly with rabbit punches. I had Kelly winning 8 of the rounds. I loved Kelly's left hook to the body and head.
I see good things for Kelly if stays away from the beer.

Boxrec has Kelly Pavlik fighting Andre Ward on January 26th. If Kelly wins this he will be champ and right there with the best of them. A bad loss would be brutal to his career. He needs to use his height and reach advantage against the dirty Ward.

4 things come to mind if this fight takes place in order for Kelly to win:
1. Kelly must use his height, arm length and potent jab, 1st and foremost.
2. Kelly must use a body attack and upper cut when Ward wades in.
3. Kelly must be on the lookout for Ward's excellent overhand right.
4. Lastly, Kelly must use good footwork and move off his jab.
I believe these are the keys for a Pavlik win. I feel confident that he has the tools and trainer to implement them.

Well this development is a head scratcher. Passing up some good paydays makes you wonder and worry a little for Kelly. Hope we don't see him a couple years from now broke and newly sobered up trying to come back, but knowing how these stories usually play out...
I don't fault Kelly. If he doesn't have the fire in the belly, why fight and get your brains scrambled. He is correct, boxing is a brutal sport. Who wants to bumble, stumble, stutter, slur and siliva drip from your mouth like Ali by taken too many shots to the head.
He says he has invested and saved his earnings wisely. I hope so and hope not to see him come back due to being broke and get demolished by a up and comer 2 years from now.
Kelly I will always view you as a great American White hero who helped smash the myth of superior black fighters in the USSA and world. Your epic win over a prime Taylor was sensational. You had a great career and broadcasting would be natural transition.

Kelly was an awesome, P4P level fighter in his day, and like Carcharias, I will always remember him for his fight with Edison Miranda, as well as his fight with Jermain Taylor, those are the two fights I will remember of him. Kelly, along with the Klitschko Brothers, Joe Calzaghe, Dariusz Michalczewski, Sven Ottke, Mikkel Kessler, and Lucian Bute was one of the better white fighters in the 2000`s.
His win over Jermain Taylor was legendary and his KO`s over Zertuche and Miranda were also extremely impressive at that time.
I remember the first time I saw Pavlik fight was in 2006, when he viciously knocked out a Haitian Negro named Lenord Pierre. Pavlik was then invited to an HBO debut where he knocked out J.L. Zertuche in a savage fashion(probably one of the most brutal KO`s in the past ten years in boxing). Pavlik was then matched in a fight to lose against HBO `black hype` job Edison Miranda, who Pavlik engaged with and ultimately wore out down the stretch, beating the Negro up and forcing a stoppage.
People at the time found that unbelievable because HBO had been pushing Edison Miranda as a `strong Negro`, and Pavlik completely busted him up and stopped him dramatically. HBO then matched Pavlik in a 50-50 fight with Negro undisputed champion Jermain Taylor. Pavlik survived a 2nd round knockdown to comeback and brutally knock Taylor out unconsciously in round 7. Again, this KO is one of the most brutal and dramatic Ive seen in over 15 years watching boxing.
Pavlik became undisputed champion of the world and thoroughly upset HBO`s plans at pushing Negro superstars Miranda and Taylor. HBO was pushing these Negroes as the next stars and Pavlik just brutally knocked them both out. It was quite a sensation at the time, and many people found it unbelievable. Miranda was favoured to beat Pavlik, which didn`t happen, then Taylor was also a slight favourite over Pavlik.
Of course, in 2008, it all started going downhill, but thats boxing. Fighters don`t usually end their careers on high notes. Credit to Kelly, although he has 2 career losses, he`s never been stopped!
Kelly will be remembered as an undisputed champion and a White Man who destoyed HBO`s Negro hopefuls!

I suspect the Kelly got into very heavy drinking after beating Taylor. He wasn't the same fighter and there is no doubt in my mind he would have beat Hopkins if he was prepared.
