...one notable result from this weekend (and I'm sure there are others):
Frank Kurtz won the HS 400m at the Stanford Invitational in 47.32.
A great time so early in the season. So I expect a lot more from him as the season progresses.

Kyle Fulks ran 10.21w (3.2) for 2nd place in the HS 100m at the Texas Relays.
Great times so early in the season (and I'm sure there are others). So I expect a lot more from these guys as the season progresses.

Maybe I'm missing something but my search for Kyle Fulks and he isn't white. Is there two different young sprinters with the same name?

Oh sh*t, I got the wrong Fulks. I found a tall, white guy, but it's the wrong guy. I will edit my post.
Thanks for the 'catch.'

I just came across the name of Hannah Waller, a HS freshman in California, who won the 400m at the Golden West Invitational, a track meet for HS all stars. Her time was 56.21. She also took 4th at the Calif State Finals in 54.69. She has a season's best time of 54.42.

At the same meet Devon Allen took 2nd in the 100m (10.59), 1st in the 110m Hurdles (13.48), and 1st in the 200m (21.40), all wind legal.

Ellie Heiden (54.15) and Brooke Feldmeier (54.37) both from the state of Washington, are the 15th and 21st fastest HS 400m girls in the country.
Nicole Montgomery of Colorado (54.23) is the 19th fastest in the country.

In the HS boys 400m
-Nick Uruburu (46.58) is 8th fastest in the country.
-Steven Champlin (46.92) from Texas is the 14th fastest.
-Frank Kurtz (47.01) of California is the 17th fastest.
-Andrew Brown (47.08) of Tumwater, Washington (same little school as Brooke Feldmeier) is the 19th fastest in the country. This kid is built - looks like a football player.

-Devon Allen is a name that's been mentioned before. A sprinter, hurdler, and wide receiver who will be going to Oregon.
He has 10th fastest 200m time in the country - 20.98
-Zac McCoy of Colorado has a best time of 21.05 for 15th fastest in the country. He also has a best time of 47.31 in the 400m. He is also built like a football player.

A few years ago we had Jonathan Cabral dominating in the HS hurdles. Now he is at Oregon and breaking records there.
Following in his footsteps was Devon Allen of Arizona, also a top top HS hurdler and 200m guy, who is in his freshman year also at Oregon.
Now a new name, Lee Warren of Virginia. He is the #3 ranked hurdler in the country indoors.
Over the weekend, he beat the #1 and #4 ranked hurdlers in the country.
The kid's only a junior.
And all these young guys are following in Barrett Nugent's footsteps who was the NCAA champ a few years ago.
The men's hurdles are starting to shine a little bit in the US.

Could this california high schooler be the new and improved version of Matt Bruno? Only time will tell but he was blazing in his opening outdoor meet of the season. Curtis Godin has alot of talent. We will have to keep a close eye on him this year and it will be interesting to see what college ends up recruiting him as a sprinter.

Curtis Godin (Mater Dei), a former baseball player til just last year, with a good early season double: 10.50 (0.0?) and 21.29 (0.0?) at the South County Classic

Curtis Godin, of Mater Dei High, has just improved his personal bests in both the 100 and 200-meters in his most recent meet two days ago.

Godin ran a 10.49 (1.6 wind) in the 100-meters, which is currently ranked #3 in the U.S., and a 21.18 (1.6 wind) in the 200-meters, which is currently ranked #2 in the U.S.

again, he never ran track until his junior year (he'd been a baseball player). he is a terrific young talent.

***********************

another name to keep an eye on out of California is Sean McGrew (Class of 2016) from St. John Bosco's. an outstanding tailback on the football field, he just broke the school record in the 100-meters on Saturday (March 29) with 10.67. he's just a sophomore.

another meet, another personal record for Mater Dei's sprint phenom Curtis Godin.

on Thursday, Godin ran a 10.42 (0.4 wind) in the 100-meters, setting an Orange County California record for the fastest ever short sprint (surpassing the previous record of Matt Bruno). that mark is currently #3 in these U.S.

in the same meet, swift sophomore Sean McGrew of St. John Bosco's took second place in 10.70.

Damn this kid can fly. I wonder why we don't here about him more in the US while 15 year old Kristoffer Hari is the talk of Europe. Only in America as cotton candy head Don King says. The anti white bias in this country is unbelievable.

Curtis Godin has the genetics, desire and will power to succeed. You know the powers he is up against but I like his chance. Incredible perfomance by a high school kid. Jake Fisher ran a little faster in Kansas a few years back and went to Auburn on a track scholarship and dissapeared. Very strange. Similar to when Matt Bruno went to UCLA. I don't always buy into the reasons I hear why this kids don't produce in college. I call b.s. on that most of the time. Anyways, I hope this kid stays strong willed. Don't let anyone stop your dream Curtis. You can acheive your dreams only if you believe it. Use the doubters and haters as fuel for the fire.

Thanks for the great updates Jimmy C. :clap2:

What is absolutely puzzling is the fact that California is a state this is only 39.7% non-Hispanic white but seems to produce top quality white sprinters (as well as hurdlers, jumpers, and most notably distance runners) for the last decade where as the rest of the country seems to be lagging behind

California has ideal training weather. In many states and Canadian provinces the track season is very short before the school year is over. So many talented individuals don't train long enough before their season is over and their skills and fitness wane until the new seasons starts up. Also I think because Blacks are largely concentrated in inner city Los Angeles and Oakland in other parts of the state White or non Black sprinters aren't ignored because they are the only sprinters around.

Curtis Godin wins with a wind legal 10.36 at Arcadia Invitational!!!
State leader and 3rd fastest in the US.
I watched the race live on the 'net. He had a slow start, but incredible acceleration!
This kid is amazing! Just his 2nd year in track.

Godin also ran 21.03 in the 200m (2nd place) also for the #3 time in the country!

Lots of other exciting news from this meet. I'll try to compile it all tomorrow.

Look forward to your wrapup on Arcadia, Jack. Don't forget to mention the 1-2-3-4 sweep in the men's 400!

other results of note, include Madeline Price taking second in the girls 200-meters in a sparkling time of 24.52 AND taking second place in the 400-meters in 53.43 (which is the #2 time in the nation at the moment). Price is a senior at Menlo in California.

here are her two races: the 200 - http://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?video_id=111757#ooid=FzM2MxbTo9vCC6ziESXBlk2yRgt5FP-J

the 400 - http://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?video_id=111743#ooid=9vcTkxbTqy0-UUFyuFAn0zw9zv4cAuB3

overshadowed by Curtis Godin's outstanding performance, Bobby Grant's 200-meters was also quite strong. known more for his hurdling, Grant took third place in the 200, with a time of 21.51. Godin was second with 21.03 (the #3 time in the country as of today).

here's the race: http://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?video_id=111761#ooid=E3Z2MxbTpnBSBdR99QUK75QtWAtpdU_F

I've tried many times. It won't let me post my summary of the track meet. Is there a limit to the number of words?!

OK. As mentioned, there was a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the boys 400m - How exciting was that?! I wonder if this is the Jeremy Wariner effect? Perhaps they were inspired by him as little kids...

Here are the results:
1/ Frank Kurtz 12 Heritage 47.35 (US #3)
2/ Taylor McLaughlin 11 Union Cath (NJ) 47.49 (US #5)
3/ Michael Bluth 11 Riverton (UT) 47.70 (US #12)
4/ Clay Lambourne 12 Riverton (Ut) 47.90 (US #20)

Frank Kurtz ran the 3rd fastest time in the country. Next yr he'll be at Stanford.
Notice that 3rd and 4th place attend the same high school - amazing!

In the women's 400m, as also mentioned in another post, Madeline Price ran the 2nd fastest time in the country - 53.43 - and also took 2nd in the 200m, 24.52 (US #27). Meanwhile Melissa Mongiovi ran 55.86 for 3rd place, and Tara Radan ran 56.45 to win the 'B' race.
And in the 200m 'B' race, Hannah Waller took 2nd in 24.81

Most exciting for me was Curtis Godin winning the 100m in the 3rd fastest time in the country - 10.36. Behind him in 4th place was running back Sean McGrew! He ran 10.69 and is only a sophomore.
Curtis was 2nd in the 200m in 21.03, also the 3rd fastest time in the country. Behind him in 3rd place was Robert Grant, 21.51.
Robert is primarily a hurdler and he won the 300m hurdles in 36.47 - US#1, fastest time in the country! Cam Dopp won the B race in 37.84.

Maybe the biggest superstar of the meet was Tiana Bonds. She won the girls 300m in 41.34 (US #4). Hannah Labrie-Smith was 2nd in 42.24 (US #9). She also won the girls 100m hurdles 13.65 (US #3), and took 2nd in the pentathlon. Talk about athletic!

These are just some of the highlights. There were other boys and girls who did well although they didn't 'medal'. I know there was some great distance running too, but I don't follow that much. Somebody else might want to comment on that.

I didn't look into the jumps, but did notice that Joey Souza took 2nd in the boys long jump, 24' 10".

Overall, it was a great, great meet. There were white kids in nearly all the sprint and hurdle races, and doing well. I think it's all about participation. If not pushed into other events or other sports, white kids can do well given the chance. This meet really showed that.
