I was reading Lindy's Pro Football 2011 Prospectus and though Prosinski was a safety in college they said he was a better fit at corner and the Jaguars were going to try him out there. They mentioned Prosinski prefered Safety and of course in typical Caste Speak they listed him as an average athlete. Yes that 41' vertical and 4.38 and 4.43 pro day 40 times make him average due to his wrong pigmentation.

I saw that too MattHarper....he probably is better off at CB! Prosinski is primed and ready to take over the shaky; much targeted secondary. He's in a nice situation to where he shouldn't have to have a racial apprenticeship either!

This writer calls the selection of Prosinski by Jax a "shocking pick," but then after he lays out his production at Wyoming and amazing athleticism the only thing "shocking" is that Prosinski lasted until the fourth round. If he was black he would have been a slam dunk first round pick.

Jaguars' 2011 Rookie Prognostications: DB Chris Prosinski

by Brian Levenson

With an end to the lockout seemingly just around the bend, the time has come to take a look at this years draft picks. The Jaguars had five picks in the 2011 draft, each of whom I will discuss in this series. Rookie prognostications will include a look at the position(s) the player plays, his skill set, and his competition for playing time. I'll predict several key statistics and include a primary position as well. Any sort of prognostication is only one person's best guess and cannot factor in injuries and free agents who have not been signed yet.

With that said, today's target is Chris Prosinski, a safety out of the University of Wyoming.

Prosinski was a shocking pick to say the least. He wasn't invited to the combine, and was expected by most people to go undrafted. Instead, the Jaguars selected him with the 24th pick in the fourth round. The selection was made based on Prosinski's excellent statistical performance (100+ tackles in two consecutive seasons) and his incredible Pro day workout. Prosinski ran a sub-4.4 forty time, but even that accomplishment paled in comparison to his incredible jumping skills. He is officially listed as having a 39.5 inch vertical and an 11'2" long jump. Wow. Just wow.

If you haven't already watched it, there's video on youtube of Prosinski's workout. It's pretty incredible. He's smooth in his backpedal, accelerates very quickly, and is just flat out explosive. A lot of people have been wowed by Prosinski's performance, including the Madden '12 game programmer who just couldn't hold back in talking about Prosinski's physical attributes.

The Jaguars are depleted at safety. If they don't pay for a free agent safety, the Jags have Courtney Greene (whom many, including myself, like) and a steaming pile of Don Carey (a natural corner), some Michael Hamlin guy, Tyron Brackenridge and (I shudder to say the name) Sean Considine. I think Prosinski's youth and rare physical skill set would place him clearly in one of the starting safety roles as it stands now. Barring a complete inability to understand written English and follow instructions, Prosinski should earn a starting role during training camp or the preseason.

His statistical performance will depend greatly on whether the Jaguars go out and get a big name free agent at the safety position. If they do, Prosinski will be a rotational player in his first year. If they don't, the sky is the limit for him. Safety is a position that usually translates well to the NFL game. Need an example? Look no further than Jairus Byrd, who led the NFL in interceptions his rookie year with 9. Those who know their Jaguars know that even much-maligned former Jaguar Reggie Nelson had a great rookie year. In the end, the statistics depend on whether I think the Jaguars will get another safety or not. Just for funzies, I'm going to assume the Jaguars don't add anyone. If the team does sign a big-name safety, Prosinski will likely end up with 20-25 tackles and a few deflections as a part-time player.

Predicted 2011 stats (no FA pickup):
Tackles: 50-55
Sacks: 0
Interceptions: 2
Pass deflections: 7-8

While I am very happy that Prosinski was drafted, and actually has a decent chance of getting significant playing time, the same issue still exists. We certainly need more whites at the safety position, but this kid should be playing corner in the NFL with his incredible athleticism. It's just depressing to think that the last true white corner in the league was Jason Sehorn. That seems like an eternity ago.

There was a noticeable uptick in White safeties last season. If Prosinski and Conte become starters and do well, it should help at least a little in the decades-long cornerback whiteout being noticed more. Hillis and Woodhead excelling, and hopefully Gerhart soon, should also help. But then again considering that so many DWFs are already downgrading Hillis and Woodhead for the '11 season, and jump all over White safeties for the least mistake, who knows. What's most encouraging to me is that the few Whites who are getting opportunities at positions other than at QB are generally doing very well while blacks are "busting out all over" (being big-time busts) at all positions in recent years at a phenomenal pace.

Yes so shocking to "waste" a 4th rd pick on a white player when you can just black ball white players out of the frickin draft(Maehl, Sanzenbacher,Herzlich, Wujciak, and Lainhart))and bring them in at a cheaper price as UDFA! Its the same way in NCAA, offer the blacks scholarships and invite the majority of white players as walk-ons. Such a messed up system that masses choose to ignore.

There is nothing shocking about either Conte or Prosinski besides their white skin. Both have elite athletic numbers for NFL safeties and are absolute ballhawks. Don I think you stand correct in saying that Conte and Prosinski could very well be the best 2 safeties in this years draft class.

and even in this article a trend of vilifying Sean Considine continues, for more on that, check today's rotoworld entry on him...

They hate the guy! Its ridiculous how critical some of the announcer are of his play.

Bad luck for Chris:

Jaguars placed S Chris Prosinski (thumb) on injured reserve, ending his season. A fourth-round pick out of Wyoming, Prosinski had just cracked the Jaguars' starting lineup, replacing Dwight Lowery (shoulder) at free safety in Week 14. Prosinski shouldn't have trouble making the roster in 2012.

Prosinski will be starting this Sunday against the Raiders. He's replacing the injured journeyman starter Dwight Lowery. Hopefully he'll do well enough to remain the starter as he has a lot more athletic ability than Lowery.

Thats good news. Wish we could see him at corner, he has the skillset to be a great corner. I am not sure what kind of scheme Jacksonville runs, they really aren't worth watching, in college he looked like he did the best in man coverage (which is why I think he should be a corner) but excelled in zone coverage as well . I saw him run all the way across the field to intercept the ball on a player the corner was supposed to have, he wasn't even lined up that deep for the play, closer to the line, so I think its safe to say the corner wasn't expecting help from over the top.

Seems odd that they put him on IR last year because of a thumb injury, a db can usually play with a hurt thumb, its not like many dbs get interceptions, even when the ball is thrown directly at them. Chris seemed to prefer to swat balls down rather than go for the interception.

He's recorded 84 tackles and 1 pick so far in his career but he's only started 8 games entering his 4th season. One Jags depth chart has him listed as 2nd string behind the likes of Cyprien and 2 other no name.bums w appropriate skin color. Imo he should be a starter, but happy to see hes still in the league and has had more action in beginning of his career compared to the majority of our guys at DB. Who are usually cut and bounce around as WSTDs.. It will be.interesting to see if he sees the field this year.
