HBO's Great Black Hopes

HBO's Great Black Hopes have been losing.

Last night, Ross Greenburg's favorite Andre Berto was knocked down three times while losing his WBC welterweight title to Victor Ortiz, despite the best efforts of the crooked referee to help him.

Earlier this month, James Kirkland was knocked out in round one by an virtually unknown, feather-fisted age 35 Japanese boxer who had been carefully selected as an easy opponent for the ex-convict.

A few months back, another HBO boxer Paul Williams was brutally KOed by Sergio Martinez.

Was the Pirog fight on HBO as well? They were expecting Daniel Jacobs to beat Pirog but it didn't work out that way.

Another good example. Yes, that was a HBO PPV.

Jason Litzau is another one who turned the tables on them and go back to 2007 our boy Kelly Pavlik started the trend. Michael Katisdis was on his way to beating a good black Cuban(can't remember the name) before getting KO'd by a check left hook towards the end of the fight.

Yeah, that ref was on the take. Those times that Berto was hit on the top or back on his head were caused by him ducking or turning away when Ortiz let his hands go. Then the ref gave Berto time to regroup when he was froggy. Larry Merchant said this and that he was "involving" himself too much into the fight.

It's interesting to watch the expressions of Greenburg and Davis sitting in the front row during the fights (you can download HD videos from boxingscene's videos section).

When Martinez KOed Williams, Greenburg looked to be in severe pain.

During the Ortiz-Berto fight, on the front row there was Shaefer, then "50 Cent" and Floyd Mayweather, then Kerry Davis, then Ross Greenburg (where he always sits) and then Lou Dibella.

Mayweather was just enjoying the fight, but Kerry Davis was openly rooting for Berto. Greenburg and Davis looked very happy when Berto knocked down Ortiz in the 6th round, but their expressions changed to horror when Ortiz came back and knocked down Berto.

Their expressions during the fight reveal a lot about them and sheds some light on how they favor boxers purely on race.

HBO has their pet canaries and they are very rarely White. Obvious ones in recent years was Cristobal Aerolla. Once he became a fringe contender they fed him stiffs, old men and undersized heavyweights. When he challenged Vitali all of the ads were about him becoming the first Mexican heavyweight champion. Berto is the same thing. He is an obvious paper champion who only defended his belt against club fighters. When Pavlik had his mandatories against club fighters HBO balked and they became Top Rank PPV's. Edited by: white is right

What's interesting is you can watch a heavyweight fight today and see almost "Zero" black in the audience. Compared to back in the 80s and 90s when a full 1/3 of the spectators were negros. whites will still support a division even if the champion is a nonwhite. But nonwhite's are generally more "Racist" than white people and have always seen boxing as not a sport, but somthing more like racial combat.. Edited by: lost

Also, as soon as whites started dominating the sport, it's popularity has gone down. That's especially true for the heavyweight division. If Haye was as good as the Klitschko's and knocking guys out right and left do you think HBO would refuse to show the fights? It would be like the Tyson and Holyfield era all over again.

The more white champions in boxing, the less popularity it will have. The DWF's will buy the media propaganda that the best black fighters are in other sports hence these white fighters aren't really "champions."

Every single white boxer, even the legends, have been degraded by the media. Anyone from Joe Calzaghe to the Klitschko brothers.

If you want to make the DWF's mad on the boxing forums just post the name Sven Ottke. They'll have a cow!
Ottke won a world title with only eleven pro fights.
He also made twenty two title defense's and retired unbeaten.

The DWFs will pointout thatOttke had
two controversial decisions in his career, and that makes him a nobody.
But the same posters willall say Ali was the greatest!

How many ridiculous decisions did Aliwin in his career????

Perhaps Jason Litzau will expose the HBO black hope Adrian Broner. And maybe the same night, Devon Alexander will lose as well.

You know whats the really sad part about all these black American boxers losing?

The excuses that "mainstream" fans make for them. Ill give an example, Chad Dawson and Paul Williams. Both are coming off of bad losses. Williams has a comeback fight scheduled (VS Lara), and Dawson cameback successfully the other night by winning a UD over Adrian Diaconu.

Mainstream fans still act like these guys are unbeatable, even after they've been beat or KO'd.

Its ridiculous. Now that Chad Dawson has won his comeback bout, people are already acting like he didn't even lose in the first place, and he's now back in the LHW Title Discussion.

Its like even when black boxers are completely exposed and suffer bad losses, mainly American mainstream boxing fans will make every excuse possible for them, and still imply that these black boxers are unbeatable. Its honestly ridiculous.

Another example is Danny Jacobs, after being brutally KO'd by Dmitry Pirog. "Mainstream" boxing fans make every excuse in the book (Ironic considering Jacobs was a betting favourite going into the fight) on why the loss happened. No one wants to give any credit to Pirog, and fans imply that Jacobs is going to comeback and get better.

Then of course there is Jason Litzau, pulling off an amazing win over Caballero, and people dont even take notice. I saw an American fan's P4P list the other day and he had Mike Jones over Jason Litzau? (Pardon my language but what the hell? Thats almost inconceivable). Mike Jones hasn't beaten any close to the level of Caballero. Caballero was appearing on many people's top15 P4P list before losing to Litzau.

The bias, not just in terms of the media, but in terms of the everyday fan is increasingly noticeable and distasteful.

Less popular in the U.S. but not Europe, lets remember that the Klitschko's and Calzaghe filled soccer stadiums in Europe in recent years.

Blacks like Roy Jones Jr are considered "legends" that were unbeatable in their prime. Jones has been getting knocked right and left lately. Calzaghe went out with an unblemished record but he'll never reach Jones's "legendary" status due to his skin color.

Jones is a legend but is place in boxing history has obviously taken a sharp nose dive. There will always be doubts about whether he could have taken the punishment of a rugged Darius M, or the G Man. He even ducked Steve Collins, who was a notch below Darius IMO. Also Calzaghe's legend keeps on growing with Hopkins schooling Pascal and Dawson looking flatter than a bottled beer in the hot summer sun.

Obviously Bimbo Lice is a long way from getting an HBO fight, but you have to know that he will get an HBO date if he can string together a winning streak against stumble bums and one win against an ESPN level fighter. Here is his mismatch from last night......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8AQWLSTSSI

That looked like his opponent took a dive. It wasn't that good of a punch.

Yes it does but the look on the eyes generally can't be faked. Anyway Lice has been ko'd badly by a journeyman in MMA, so this boxing attempt is more carnival sideshow than legitimate climb through the boxing rankings.

Quillin vs McEwan

Yes, the next great black hope that HBO will try to push on the masses is Quillin. Luckly McEwan has an excellent chance to detrail their next black hope project.

If McEwan fixed his stamina problem which was exposed in the explosive loss to Lee, he will have an excellent chance of beating this affelet. To me McEwan reminded me of a rough Joe Calzaghe. I said that he needed a top tier trainer to maximize his potential. Hopefully he got one.

Winner of this fight will instantly be a top Six middleweight contender with eyes on Sergio Martinez.
