Another Line headed to SMU:

Armen Williams
PonyPride.com

Within the last few weeks, the Mustangs picked up a new commitment from Oxford (Michigan) running back Prescott Line. The 2012 product only boasted the one offer from SMU but that was all that he needed.

Line states that he's a solid commitment to SMU.

"I first called Coach Suan because I had his number," said Line. "Then I called Coach June Jones and made my verbal commitment to him. He said that he appreciated me committing and he can't wait for me to come down.

"I really liked their campus and their program. I've been going to their games the last two years. Their program has really gotten better with Coach Jones as a coach."

The SMU program has also progressed with junior running back Zach Line, who happens to be Prescott Line's older brother. That's why the younger Line knows so much about the Conference USA program.

"It's good to know that I have a college to go to after high school that's guaranteed. It's also good to know that my brother and I can still hangout after I get out of high school. It's good to have plans.

"My family and friends are all excited that Zach and I get to play together and that they get to see us both. They're all excited I have somewhere to go to."

Prescott Line will come into the SMU program with high expectations as Zach Line started last season and in record fashion. With 1,494 rushing yards in 2010, Zach Line only follows SMU great Eric Dickerson on SMU's all-time single season rushing record and was named to First Team All-Conference as well.

"We both have our different ways," said Prescott Line. "I can't say who is better. On the field, there's not too much different. We both run the same way and we both play the same way. We're both good at blocking and have the ability of knowing where the ball is."

At 6-foot-0, 215-pounds, the physical Prescott Line won the state wrestling title this year.

Prescott Line is still hearing from Michigan State, Central Michigan, Toledo and Indiana. He plans on making a few in-state camps later this summer.

This is great news. Way to go SMU. I hope he decides to follow in Zachs footsteps. It will probably be his best chance to start in Div. IA College Football. What an athletic family.

He is following his footsteps, story just makes it confusing at the end when it says he's still going to camps.

It would be nice if June Jones ran his run and shoot out of the pistol, you can have all the same concepts, just have the qb a little closer to the los and the runningback directly behind him that way he will have some speed built up because he will be running downhill rather than at an angle. That way it doesn't limit the type of running plays you can run in the gun. He has ran plays similar to this where Line is running more downhill with the handoff but not as much as they should be doing. He has amazing agility, especially for someone his size, it would better be used for making guys miss at the second level rather than making multiple cuts to get past the line of scrimmage. Also, he would have more power on plays if he is running downhill by the time he gets the handoff.

Good to see his brother heading to SMU as well, I wonder if he is just as talented. I am also confused by the end of the story. Hopefully he is picking SMU, I hate how he emphasizes what they are good at and the first thing out of his mouth is "blocking". No other back under Jones has rushed for 1,000 and not many backs in spread offenses that don't utilize the zone read crack 1,000 either.

Wow Prescott Line is a RB who happens to be a state champion wrestler! I've never heard of a RB being a state champ wrestler. Usually its bigger guys in positions such as LBs, TEs, FBs, and linemen. Pretty rare feat indeed!

Total insanity right here. Zach Line is the top ranked fullback for 2013.
Zach Line*, FB, SMU
Height: 6-1. Weight: 230.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Projected Round (2013): 4-6.

9/2/11: Zach Line is going to have to add some bulk and power to be a true fullback in the NFL, but he is one of the best running fullbacks to come out in some time. Line ran for 1,494 yards with an average of 6.1 yards per carry and 10 touchdowns in 2010. He runs with power and has nice burst. Line caught 17 passes for 163 yards. As was the case with Toby Gerhart in 2010, Line could be considered by some teams to be a running back in the NFL. Line was the Mustangs' short-yardage back in 2009 as a freshman and recorded seven touchdowns. If Line can stay as productive over the next two seasons, he should be the first fullback selected in the 2012 NFL Draft.

I'm pretty sure line runs better than a 4.69. I think they probably had Lagarrett Blount running a 4.45.

Zach Line is one of my favorites. The kid tore Texas A&M up in the first half with 108 yards on 15 carries and a TD (don't know what he finished up with but the Aggies geared up to stop him in the second half).

Just a note: the Line brothers aren't the first white kids from Michigan to make a splash at SMU, Jason Wolf was a terrific hybrid back/reciever to play for the Mustangs just after the Death Penalty. He set the NCAA freshman pass reception record in 1989.

Bronk after the death penalty did SMU return at the DII level? Or did they move to Conference USA? Thanks.

SMU returned to the Div. I level, back in their spot in the Southwest Conference the year Wolf set the record. They did so after a one year NCAA-imposed absence and another season of school-imposed non-play. The SWC broke up in the mid-1990s and SMU went off to the WAC then joined CUSA in 2005.

Zach Line set an SMU school record last night with 5 rushing touchdowns in 1 game. that's something the great Doak Walker, Eric ****erson, or Craig James never did.

pretty good for a "fullback," huh? *smirk*

I was hoping he would eclipse 100 yds yesterday but I will take those 5 tds any day of the week. He should be in the running for the Doak Walker award.

"He should be in the running for the Doak Walker award."

Because "defenses" can't tackle, Marcus Lattimore has likely already locked up the award...

he's second in the nation in TDs with 11. Go Zach!

Only because Pierce had five rushing touchdowns for Temple yesterday. And Zach should've had two more yesterday.

Unfortunately, Temple's upcoming schedule is probably the easiest in D1A, and the Owls look to have one of their best teams this year. So Pierce will likely finish the year on top. Whereas SMU's schedule is a mix of tough and mediocre teams.

Apparently he was playing with a separated shoulder. Hopefully this will heal up and not get any worse.

http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews...quick-thoughts-off-smus-42-0-win-over-me.html

"*Zach Line added three touchdowns to up his season total to 11. He played with a separated shoulder and didn't practice most of the week, though you couldn't tell as he gained 136 yards. Line's left shoulder pad was specially fitted wth Kevlar this week to add extra protection. The same company who fitted Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo for a Kevlar vest worked with SMU."

Maybe he should knock his shoulder out of alignment every week.
He looked the best I've seen him.
Nobody ever credits a runningback's footwork, but Zach is a high speed dancer while negotiating traffic. Staying on his toes and keeping his feet moving constantly is what allows him to shake tackles without the large body shifts that other "acclaimed" runningbacks have to make.

Don't forget about injuries, that can always be a game changer.

You were so right here! Spurrier is reporting that Lattimore is OUT FOR THE SEASON!!

Of course, there's still Trent Richardson, but Lattimore was such an annoying hype-job..

Well, someone mentioned that it would be nothing short of a miracle if Line averaged 75+ yards a game against TCU, UCF and Southern Miss, he averaged 120+ yards for these 3 games. At this pace he will wind up with 1400+ yards rushing (not including a bowl game or c-usa championship game). They have some easier games coming up plus a good shot at making the c-usa championship + a bowl game since they are 5-2, so there is a good shot of him breaking '****erson's record of 1617. Maybe he can get close to 2k, hopefully at least 1700 to 1800 with 20 + rushing tds. He is currently ranked 13th for rushing yards in the nation.

Hopefully Zach doesn't get drafted by a team with a top 5 RB. It would be nice to see an elite White RB for once actually get drafted by a team that actually has a need for a RB. But a team like the Titans will probably draft Line just to light a fire under Johnson's lazy butt...:icon_mad:
