Vernon Gholston was the 6th overall pick of the 2008 Draft.  He had great media hype about his career at Ohio State and his workout at the Combine.  Well, he's been a colossal bust so far, almost unbelievably bad.  But because he's black he's been spared the non-stop, national ridicule that would be directed at any white player who flopped in a similar way.  Mike Mamula was a first round Hall of Famer in the NFL compared to what Gholston's played like so far.

A writer who covers the Jets predicts the Texans will go right after Gholston on Sunday as he is replacing the suspended Calvin Pace and "Gholston, a high draft pick from last year who really had a very bad rookie year and has been getting a lot of time this preseason, but frankly, I don't think he's ready for full-time duty and I could see the Texans going right after him and running the ball at him because his football instincts are a little behind right now and he has trouble shedding blocks. So I could see them going right at him."  http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?STORY_ID=5561

So Gholston has no football instincts and the affletic marvel can't shed blocks.  What an exact science the drafting process is. Wacko  The same process that decided Mike Hass couldn't get open in the NFL even though he was uncoverable against top college competition.

Don, the sick thing is that footballsblackfuture.com had hyped Gholston as the "TOP DE IN THE ENTIRE DRAFT" even above Chris Long. This was before changing the rankings again at the last minute when their own DWF posters were scoffing at the sites own argument. Every year that site hypes a black QB or two in the top 5 QBs. And the highest they've EVER had a white offensive skill player ranked was Anthony Gonzalez as their 10th WR."

It's amazing that so many people buy the hype from these drunk white analysts. But the truth is, these potato chip eating "scouts" have a clear and evident prejudice.

Mike Mayock is your typical caste fool, and even he labeled Gholston correctly as "the tin man" (no heart) before he was drafted 6th overall.

NFL Network (back then known as 'Ocho Cinco TV') was more interested in showing infinate clips of Gholston shirtless than focusing on his barely above average on-field play at OSU. How are those fake muscles working out?

It should be funny to watch Gholston get pounded until even the caste media can't deny that he's basically a body builder who plays football like a p*ssy.

You're right Thrashen, Gholston's a workout warrior with no work ethic and he's soft. His instinctive ability is also below average for a pro DE. Sure sounds like a guy whose better than Chris Long right?

I heard all about Gholston being a freak and Chris Long being an "overachiever" before the draft. However, Gholston was only faster than Long over 40 yards by 0.08 seconds and Long actually showed better short area quickness. Long had a significantly better shuttle and slightly better 3-Cone and equal 10 yard clip. Long was also just one inch below Gholston for broad jump with a 10-4 jump- which was second amongst DEs. Here's his other ranks, 1st in the short shuttle, 3rd in the 3-Cone, 4th in the vertical leap tes. I'd say Long is a better "all round" athlete, yet he was destined to fail b/c he's the overachiever and Gholston is the freak according to footballsblackfuture.com

He is the next Alonzo Spellman, another OSU product who looked like a cartoon freak and was about as effective. Still the obviously gay and drunk white media just knew he would develop, he never did.

The Jets traded for Braylon Edwards, yet did not sign Matt Jones. Their GM must be a genius---NOT!!!

NEW YORK -- Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini has dumped dissatisfied wide receiver Braylon Edwards off on his former team.

Mangini sent Edwards, a former first-round pick whose troubles have matched his immense talent to the New York Jets on Wednesday for wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnik and undisclosed draft choices.

Edwards, in his fifth season, has 10 receptions for 139 yards but was held to no catches for the first time in his career in the winless Browns' 23-20 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. His best season came in 2007, when he had 80 catches for 1,289 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The former Michigan star comes with his share of off-field issues. The NFL is investigating whether he violated the league's conduct policy following accusations he assaulted a man outside a nightclub. Cleveland police are also looking into the incident.

The Jets, off to a 3-1 start, had been looking to replace Laveranues Coles in the starting lineup since allowing him to become a free agent in the offseason. They looked into former Giants star Plaxico Burress' legal status before the draft, and were mentioned in possible trade talks with Denver's Brandon Marshall.

San Francisco also filed tampering charges against the Jets in September, claiming New York was looking into wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the 49ers' top draft pick. The league is still looking into those charges.

Edwards allegedly punched promoter Edward Givens, a friend of NBA star LeBron James, early Monday morning following an argument in downtown Cleveland.

Although Edwards hasn't been charged with a crime, the league's conduct policy states that discipline may be imposed for "the use or threat of violence."

Edwards has been involved in other off-field incidents. In March, he was partying with suspended Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth in Miami the night Stallworth later drove drunk and killed a pedestrian. Edwards was not with Stallworth at the time.

Last November, Edwards was fined $150 and given 30 hours of community service after he was found guilty of driving 120 mph.

It's the second major trade the Jets have made with the Browns and Eric Mangini, their former coach. On the first day of the draft in April, New York acquired the fifth overall pick from Cleveland to select Sanchez for its first-round pick, its second-rounder (No. 52), and defensive end Kenyon Coleman, safety Abram Elam and quarterback Brett Ratliff.

Stuckey, who won the No. 2 receiver spot opposite Cotchery out of training camp, has 11 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. He was a seventh-round draft pick out of Clemson in 2007, but missed his first season with a foot injury. Stuckey had 32 receptions last season, catching three touchdown passes from Brett Favre.

Trusnik, signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio Northern in 2007, is a special teams ace and backup linebacker. He was selected as the AFC's special teams player of the week last week after forcing and recovering a fumble on a kickoff in the Jets' 24-17 win over Tennessee.

Still doesn't surprise me that Jones is not signed as of yet. He is better than most receivers in the league but is being forced out because he is white. Hopefully something changes.

I dont see why the Browns dont pick up Matt Jones. Edwards is one of the reasons the Browns are off to an an 0-4 start. I am a Quinn fan and think that he could do well if given a reliable target like Matt Jones.

Picking up a bum like edwards will hurt the jets real bad, so that's what they'll do. Nothing ever changes with this forlorne franchise. Vintage jets.

I found this article after looking up Jim Leonhard today http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2009/10/14/ryan-raves-about-jim-leonhard/

This is the last paragraph, pretty amazing what Rex went through just to get Leonhard

“Of course, we had Ed Reed and Duwan Landry, so we were set at our starters when we drafted two safeties, yet I still wanted Jim Leonhard because I knew he was a heck of a football player, a special football player. Ozzie said ‘You can have him, but you’ve got to cut three players (laughing).’ So we cut those three guys and Jim’s now playing with me and the Jets and doing a great job.”

This article details the athleticism of Jets punter Steve Weatherford

Weatherford, the Jets’ Versatile Punter, Is Ready to Kick, and to Run

Weatherford almost turned professional as a decathlete. In the high jump, he once hit 6 feet 10 inches. In the long jump, he hurtled 24 feet. And when he finally decided that a career in the N.F.L. might be best for him after graduating from Illinois, he was running the 40-yard dash in about 4.45 seconds. Those are numbers that would make most running backs jealous.

From Rotoworld:

Jets SS Jim Leonhard is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured thumb. Coach Rex Ryan provided no timetable for Leonhard to return, but said the injury "doesn't sound good to me." Eric Smith will likely take over. Leonhard was averaging five tackles a game with one pick through nine weeks.

Great news for Eric Smith. Smith should be starting alongside Leonhard now, but given NFL policy, the Jets will find an afflete to keep Smith at 3rd safety.

Jets Trade Rhodes to Cardinals

Updated Mar 6, 2010 7:38 PM ET
NEW YORK (AP)
The New York Jets traded safety Kerry Rhodes to the Arizona Cardinals for undisclosed draft compensation.

The Jets announced the deal Saturday. FOXSports.com contributor Adam Schein was the first to report the trade.

On Friday, the Cardinals lost Pro Bowl safety Antrel Rolle, who signed as a free agent with the New York Giants.

Rhodes has four years left on his contract and was due $2 million roster bonus next week. Expected to be one of the standouts on coach Rex Ryan's defense last year, Rhodes struggled and even lost his starting job.

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/03/ladainian_tomlinson_is_leaning.html

LaDaindian Tomlinson is said to be leaning towards signing with the Jets, according to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Tomlinson, who spent his entire nine-year career with the Chargers, was released last month. He visited the Vikings and Jets last week, flying home Saturday morning following a two-day stay in New Jersey. Although he's tentatively scheduled to visit the Saints and Eagles this week, people close to him believe he'll sign with the Jets as early as Sunday or Monday.

Besides the Jets being Super Bowl contenders, Tomlinson is said to like the idea of playing for offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who was quarterbacks coach in San Diego with Tomlinson and runs the same offense.

Not good news for Danny Woodhead if this happens.

I knew the fat turd Ryan had something up his sleeve. Tomlinson is washed up and will never be a starter again but Woodhead will be kicked down in the depth chart and might not even make the team.  Maybe he can catch on somewhere else.

LT is washed up- Woodhead is a much better backup option to Greene! Woodhead should get 1/3 of the carries if fair!

Man all the teams that could be playing potential STAR white RBs are signing washed up, has been black RBs. The Redskins signed washed up, felony prone Larry Johnson- when they could have easily traded for Peyton Hillis for maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Hopefully some other team makes a qualifying offer for Leon Washington. Another team would lose their 2nd round pick if they sign Washington, but they would have to outbid the Jets first. Lets hope it happens!

I don't even think Tomlinson is a decent backup at this point in time.  He's lost a step and I doubt he can even run a 4.5 40 right now.

Correction, I should have said- if Leon Washington leaves NY than Woodhead should see almost half the carries if fair! Woodhead is a better complimentary scatback than Darren Sproles and is a better rusher than Leon I think. He's not as good a kick returner as LW, but he can also learn to catch the ball as well as LW in NY. Come on Jets...go with the cheaper option in this economy and keep Woodhead. Trade Leon!
